This is the preliminary (or launch) version of the 2026-2027 VCU Bulletin. Courses that expose students to cutting-edge content and transformative learning may be added and notification of additional program approvals may be received prior to finalization. General education program content is also subject to change. The final edition and full PDF version will include these updates and will be available in August prior to the beginning of the fall semester.

The Department of Theatre and Dance provides comprehensive training in theatre and dance to develop skilled performers, designers and scholars. The department is dedicated to cultivating the next generation of performing arts professionals, scholars and creative thinkers. This is done through rigorous training in the classroom, studios and on stage as we prepare our students for their professional careers.

The department offers two programs. The theatre program offers three degrees: a Bachelor of Fine Arts, a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Fine Arts. The dance program leads to a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

Both programs provide a unique educational experience where students develop critical thinking, visual and kinesthetic literacy, effective collaboration and multidisciplinary training.

The programs require auditions for admission to degree programs, as well as for scholarships and specialized majors. Depending on the degree, auditions can be in person or via video. More information about auditions in the fall and spring can be found on the VCUarts theatre or dance website.
