This is the preliminary (or launch) version of the 2024-2025 VCU Bulletin. We may add courses that expose our students to cutting-edge content and transformative learning. We may also add content to the general education program that focuses on racial literacy and a racial literacy graduation requirement, and may receive notification of additional program approvals after the launch. The final edition and full PDF version will include these updates and will be available in August prior to the beginning of the fall semester.

The sculpture and extended media concentration within the M.F.A. in Fine Arts program is designed to facilitate the deepening and expansion of each student’s individual studio practice. This is implemented through both formal and informal contact with faculty, including faculty committee reviews, one-on-one studio visits, faculty-led peer critiques and rigorous research seminars. Activities designed to foster a community-minded cohort dynamic are central to the program, as well as elective courses offering intensive technical explorations and classes with professors outside the department. Students are expected to engage in studio investigations through the lens of substantive research and to build an awareness of contemporary and historical definitions of art that will inform their creative work. Along with the Department of Sculpture’s faculty, graduate students are exposed to a vigorous visiting artist schedule.
