This is the preliminary (or launch) version of the 2026-2027 VCU Bulletin. Courses that expose students to cutting-edge content and transformative learning may be added and notification of additional program approvals may be received prior to finalization. General education program content is also subject to change. The final edition and full PDF version will include these updates and will be available in August prior to the beginning of the fall semester.

Professor and chair
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers an undergraduate program leading to a Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Sciences with concentrations in applied mathematics, biomathematics, general mathematical sciences, mathematics, secondary mathematics teacher preparation and statistics. The department administers the Master of Science in Mathematical Sciences with concentrations in applied mathematics, mathematics and statistics and a Doctor of Philosophy in Systems Modeling and Analysis with concentrations in applied mathematics, discrete mathematics, and statistics and data science . The department jointly administers the Master of Science in Data Science with the Department of Computer Science. The department also offers a post-baccalaureate undergraduate Certificate in Statistics and a graduate Certificate in Applied Statistics.
Students who complete the requirements for either of these concentrations will receive a Master of Science in Mathematical Sciences.
